Will Preston

After a meeting where it was declared that I don’t have a face for radio, I started working on television presenting. The first show I began on was a music spot for CCi TV’s weekly magazine show ‘CCi Live’. The spot would feature myself pointing out a band that the viewer should listen to. These bands would often be Portsmouth based, which in turn advertised the talent that was in the Pompey music scene. These little spots led to myself presenting my own full length show simply entitled ‘Will’s Music Show'; four twenty-minute length shows giving the viewer a bigger taste of what music is out there.

2010 – Present

The Creative and Cultural Industries faculty at The University Of Portsmouth has their own TV studio and channel (CCi TV) to coincide with Television and Broadcast student’s course. After a meeting with tutors Charlie Watts and Gary Brown, we looked into doing a weekly music spot for the channel. All I would need to do is present it and find the bands. Below are the sports. Notice my change in facial hair over a period of time.

B Of The Bang – 12/03/2010

This first episode was to quickly introduce the show. I was without an autocue for this first episode so I had to improvise on the spot. Filming and providing sound were Ash Bellinger and Mark Darlington who would continue running the music show.

Kill Kasper – 19/03/2010

My first time using an autocue. I had to learn to keep my eyes still and try not to make it obvious that I was reading for one. This skill would be perfected in time.

Conspiracy Of Serenity – 26/03/2010

The band mentioned at the beginning didn’t provide their music video in time, so we had to abandon that part towards the end. But that didn’t matter so much as this would be the first music spot where I would be interviewing a guest AND have a live performance. The band don’t usually do acoustic songs, but they made an exception in this case.
